“A major lesson that I have learned as I have progressed in diving is to respect and protect this fabulous underwater world”.

In Mel’s own words:

I was first Open Water Certified in 1984 while living in West Palm Beach, Florida.  After moving from Florida, I had a very long dry spell.  For years, without luck, I tried to talk my husband Chris into scuba diving.   I secretly checked out all the local scuba shops and then I zoned in on Sam’s Skin n Scuba.

As soon as I walked in the door I found the staff at Sam’s Skin n Scuba to be friendly and attentive.   My husband finally agreed to give scuba a try, and for our 20th anniversary we both got PADI certified and we’ve been diving ever since!  He is now a PADI  DiveMaster and I am now a PADI Instructor.

What I enjoy most about diving is the opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  I love the enveloping silence and the calmness.  The brilliant colors and intricate designs on the fish are of total fascination to me.

A major lesson that I have learned as I have progressed in diving is to respect and protect this fabulous underwater world.

There are just so many dive destinations that I enjoy. But, certainly Cayman, Bonaire, Cozumel and Roatan are among my favorites. However, I’m looking forward to exploring the Pacific with the dive shop real soon.

As an instructor, I strive to teach my students proper technique and mindset so they too will become scuba ambassadors – protecting the oceans, reefs and all the marvelous inhabitants of the sea.  I’ll do whatever it takes for my students to become calm, confident and safe divers as they go forth into the wonderful world of scuba.

Let’s go DIVING!
